If you are choosing new windows for your home, it usually comes down to two materials: uPVC and aluminium. Both are popular and durable, but they behave very differently once they are in your wall. Here is an honest, side-by-side comparison to help you decide.

Heat insulation and energy bills

This is the biggest difference. Aluminium is an excellent conductor of heat, so aluminium frames let outdoor heat in during summer and pull warmth out in cooler months, which pushes up your air-conditioning bills. uPVC is a natural insulator: its multi-chambered profile traps air and keeps interiors noticeably cooler, which matters a lot in Coimbatore's climate.

Weather resistance and durability

uPVC is corrosion-free and unaffected by rain, humidity and salt air; it will not rust, rot or warp. Aluminium is strong but can corrode over time, especially near the coast. For a long, low-worry life in Indian weather, uPVC has the edge.

Sound insulation

Thanks to their tight seals and gaskets, uPVC windows cut outside noise well, and with double glazing they reduce it dramatically, ideal for homes near busy roads. Aluminium's slimmer frames and higher conductivity make it less effective at blocking sound.

Maintenance

uPVC is practically maintenance-free: no painting or polishing, just an occasional wipe. Aluminium may need periodic attention to seals and finish. Neither is high-effort, but uPVC is the more hands-off choice.

Security

Both can be very secure. uPVC profiles are steel-reinforced and pair with multi-point locking and toughened or laminated glass, giving grille-free security without compromising the look.

Aesthetics and cost

Aluminium allows very slim sightlines, which some modern designs prefer. uPVC comes in many colours and woodgrain finishes. On price, like-for-like uPVC usually costs less than an aluminium window built to match its thermal performance, and it keeps saving through lower energy bills and zero repainting.

The verdict for Indian homes

For most homes in Coimbatore, uPVC is the smarter choice: better insulation, lower bills, no corrosion and almost no maintenance. Aluminium still suits certain very large or structural spans, but for everyday comfort and value, uPVC wins.
